Work and Travel 2012: New York!!

After 2 months of working in Lake Village,Yellowstone, finally came the time for traveling around USA!

Our first stop will be the busiest city in the world---- New York City!!

We spent 5 days in New York and the airline we took for the domestic flight was Frontier Airlines.

After a few hours of flight, we arrived in LaGuardia Airport(LGA). Without wasting any time, we quickly grabbed our luggage and queued for cab.
We waited around 30 mins for the cab
It was around 30 minutes ride to the hostel booked, Morningside Inn. By the time we reached there it was already 12 midnight , luckily they still let us checked in.
Hostel:
That was one of the affordable hostel we could find in New York, but it was still considered a bit expensive for us. The room and toilet was considered clean and everyday there will be a housekeeper came in and cleaned the room. But the inconvenient part was the wifi connection. They provide free wifi, however due to we stayed in level 4 which is out of the wifi range, every night we have to go down to the lobby in order to use the wifi. Every night you'll see a lot of peoples will sit around the staircase at the lobby to use the wifi.

However the location of the hostel is strategic. Its located at the uptown of Manhattan, and its a 5 minutes distance to the train station. Just a few minutes walk, there will be a row shops of restaurants, markets, laundry shop, etc.
Midnight when hungry we came here for supper. The turkey burger was delicious^^
So overall for this hostel, I would rank it 7/10

Travel:
We mostly spent our days in Manhattan. Manhattan is divided into 3 part: Uptown( North of 59th st.), Midtown(34th ~ 59th st.) and Downtown(South of 34th st.).

Before we start traveling around, there were 2 must buy things : Metro Card & New York city pass
Metro Card: 7 Days Unlimited Rides in Subway and Bus with just $29!
New York City Pass: Its quite worth it since we were going to the famous attraction places  in New York.

Actually its quite easy to travel around Manhattan, because the street road are very straight forward. All you need to know the location is at which street, which avenue then you can find the place easily.

During the 5 days, we went almost all the famous attraction points in New York.

American Museum of Natural History
This is the place where the movie Night at the Museum is based on.

Dinosaur bones at the lobby

the BIG whale

The museum was amazing! We spent almost the whole day inside. To me the dinosaur's bone was the most fascinating, because that was only the place I can see dinosaur bones.

Central Park:
The only greenland in Manhattan. Its a BIG piece of park which cover from 110th street till 59th street and 8th avenue till 5th avenue.

Its a place for relaxation and for a healthy lifestyle. In the morning, there will be lot of people jogging, playing basketball, or bring their dogs for a walk.
He was not the only one who jog naked..LOL

The dog was so beautiful
We never did any exercise, instead we bought ice-creams to eat..LOL
The amazing part of Central Park is this piece of land. Everybody just lie down and be relax.

Welcome to Central Park!
Times Square:
The busiest streets in Manhattan stretching from 42nd to 47th streets. A place where you'll spent all your money. There were so many branded shops, its like a heaven for women ( even men ).

Disney store and Forever 21

The M&M store

Lacoste: a shop that I would never buy things from

Us appearing in the tv board. Can u spot us?
Statue of Liberty:
The iconic status in New York. Too bad during that period, it was under construction, so we can't went inside the statue. Instead, we took a Circle Line ferry and viewed the Statue of Liberty from far ( its actually a better view )

Took a picture with US flag before we reached the Liberty island

A glance of the Statue

Such a magnificent Statue

The Brooklyn Bridge

The Manhattan Bridge

The skyscrapers in Manhattan

Empire State Building:

We queued for an hour plus just to get to the 86th floor Observatory. But when we went up there , the time we waited were all worth it ^^
Model of Empire State Building
The night scene in New York.....

Grand Central Terminal:

New York Chinatown:

鸡蛋糕?

Looks familiar? lol
Wall Street:
The big bull
There are still a lot of places we went, but I cant cover it all. Basically it was fun and we were having a great time there. But you'll need a lot of money to travel in New York, because the expenses there are quite high plus you surely will spend money while walking around Times Square..hehe..

5 days is more than enough to travel there. Our next stop, Las Vegas...............
