Season 2013-14, a season which the Red Devil's fans would want to forget. Such a disappointing season.
After season 12-13, after getting the 20th English title Sir Alex Ferguson had announced his retirement as Manchester United manager. He then appointed the Everton manager, David Moyes to be his successor and people called him "the Chosen One"
My first impression on him is he never handle big players before, can he handle players like Rooney, van Persie, Giggs them? I never expect him to lead MU to win the Premier League title, but I expect he at least can bring United to qualify for next season's UEFA Champion League. However, throughout the whole season, the only thing he produce is disappointment! The first disappointment was his first signing. After the whole Summer transfer market, he was only able to sign his favorite player - Fellaini at a price of £27.5 million! All I can say about Fellaini is a waste of money...
There were so many time I want to write a blog post to criticize David Moyes, but everytime I stop that idea because I thought it would be a waste of time. At the start there were many people criticized him why he don't use the talented players like Kagawa and Chicharito, instead he keep using the local players like Welbeck, Young and Cleverly, even when they rarely produced a good performance. However, there were still people who support him, defend that we should give him time. At the mid season, more and more people get frustrated to him, keep urging United should sack him if not United probably won't have chance to play in Europe league next season. However, Sir Alex Ferguson, Bobby Charlton still defend him say need to give him time. Until now everyone had accept the fact that United won't be playing in Europe league next season. But this time was the board who can't stand on him anymore, after the loss against Everton at Goodison Park where it was confirm United is out from UEFA Champion League, David Moyes was sacked!
I guess no one will be surprised that he was sacked, instead most of fans are delighted! So far he had lead United for 51 games, 16 games at Old Trafford for BPL. For these 16 games, United had lost 6 games! The Theater of Dream had became a Nightmare under him. He also broke a lot records for United, a list of sad records...
However, not only bad things happened under him. Actually there are a few delighting news happened during his time. The major one should be signing over Chelsea's player of the year - Juan Mata to Manchester United! That was one thing that really excite the fans, because we all know how well Mata played for Chelsea over these few years.
Another thing was he was able to convince Rooney to stay back and signed new 5 years contract with United.
After David Moyes left United, Ryan Giggs had been appoint to take charge for the last 4 games as the interim manager. Everyone was excited to see Ryan Giggs to be the Manager. However, based on the performance for the last 4 games, we knew that we can't just solely blame on David Moyes's skill, the players should also take up the blames. This season performance had been very poor, very disappointing. Now we just can put hope on the new Manager and rebuild the Red Devil!
Another sad news about this season is that both the Captain and his partner are leaving United after this season. Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand!! These partners had once been the solid defense for Manchester United along side with the legend keeper- Van der Sar
Even though their form have drop every season, but I really miss their partnership. Not sure Jones, Evans and Smalling will have such partnership. Seeing them leave Manchester United really mean it has come to the end of an era. A new era will be rising soon.
